Workshop Description:
Discussion of Code of Ethics for healthcare interpreting. Review of values and associated principles. Presentation of cases for small group discussion and large group sharing to identify how the values and principles manifest in everyday healthcare scenarios.
This workshop is for professionals who have completed a Medical Interpreter Training Course.
Regular Fee: $30.00
CEU Fee (for nationally certified medical interpreters): an additional $30.00 that includes course materials, CEU certificate of completion): contact hours: 3 credits
Refunds: MV AHEC does not provide refunds after 10 full calendar days prior to the date of the workshop.
Education Level: This workshop is for professionals who have completed a Medical Interpreter Training Course; Intermediate to Advanced
Certificates & Completion Requirements: Participants are expected to sign-in and out, attend the entire workshop, and complete an evaluation. The CEU certificate will be mailed to participants 6 to 8 weeks following the program. A Merrimack Valley AHEC certificate of attendance will also be provided to all participants upon completion of the workshop.

Program Learning Objectives:
Medical interpreters participating in this training program will be able to:
1. Understand Code of Ethics
2. Develop an ability to distinguish between principles and values
3. Discuss interpreter’s obligations to act guided by the Code
4. Discuss resources available to interpreters to determine the appropriate course of action.
Laura R. Nakazawa, CMI, worked for nine (9) years as a Manager of Interpreter Services at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. She holds a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary and intercultural studies from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. During her stay at DFCI, Laura was a member of the Ethics Committee. She participated in numerous ethical trainings offered by BWH and her own institution. She also participated in ethical consultations. She presently works as an independent contractor doing medical, conference and legal interpreting.
